Health and fitness tracking could be one of the primary new focuses for Apples next mobile software update. Apple news site 9to5Mac claimed that Apple was developing a new Healthbook app to collect and store data on fitness activities, including steps taken, calories burned, and distance walked. The Healthbook app was said to target medical and health data, tracking a persons heart rate and blood pressure, as well as other blood-related statistics like glucose levels, something a pair of sensor-packed earphones could link into as well as a smartwatch. Apple already holds patents for the collection of sensory information, including blood-pressure monitoring , but it is unclear whether that technology is mature enough to build into a smartwatch or earphone-like device. The whole sensor field is going to explode, said Tim Cook in an interview in 2013 .

Planet Fitness Announces Strong Growth In 2013

Garmin said on Wednesday it expects revenue to grow 10-15 percent from businesses other than its personal navigation device unit, where revenue is expected to fall 10-15 percent. The forecast implies that sales from personal navigation devices will account for less than half of the company’s revenue this year. Sales from the personal navigation devices unit fell 12 percent to $382.5 million in the fourth quarter, while sales from all other units combined rose 14 percent to account for nearly half of the company’s total sales of $759.7 million. Much of that was driven by strong sales in the company’s aviation and fitness businesses. Aviation unit sales jumped 25 percent to $87.4 million in the quarter.
